Why NAD⁺ matters

Every cell in your body runs on a coenzyme called NAD⁺. It does two things worth knowing about. It carries energy through the chemistry that turns your breakfast into something you can actually use. And it is spent — genuinely used up — by a family of enzymes that handle everyday cellular housekeeping and repair.

Because those enzymes consume it rather than borrow it, supply has to keep pace with demand. Measured NAD⁺ levels tend to fall as we get older, across a range of human tissues. That single observation is why an entire field of nutrition science grew up around NAD⁺ precursors — the compounds your body converts into NAD⁺.

Nutrae NR is one of them. It is the reason the first jar exists.

NR — nicotinamide riboside

What it is. A member of the vitamin B3 family, and a direct building block your cells convert into NAD⁺.

What the research shows. Randomised, placebo-controlled human trials have repeatedly found that daily nicotinamide riboside raises NAD⁺ levels measured in blood. It is the most directly studied NAD⁺ precursor in humans — and that is exactly why it earned its own jar rather than a corner of somebody's blend.

The salt form, named. Nicotinamide riboside is unstable on its own, so every real NR product on the market is a salt — the molecule paired with a partner that keeps it stable on a shelf. Nutrae uses nicotinamide riboside hydrogen malate, NRHM, paired with malate: itself a Krebs-cycle compound. We print that on the label and on the Specifications page, because a brand that will not name its salt form is asking you to trust a trade name instead of a molecule.

Urolithin A

What it is. A postbiotic — a compound your gut bacteria make from ellagitannins, the plant compounds found in pomegranate, walnuts and berries. Whether you produce a useful amount depends entirely on which bacteria you happen to carry, and plenty of people produce very little. This is the metabolite your microbiome may not make for you. We bottle it directly instead.

What it is studied for. Mitophagy: the housekeeping process by which a cell spots a worn-out mitochondrion — one of the little power plants that keep it running — and recycles it. That quality-control process slows with age, and Urolithin A is the best-studied nutritional compound aimed squarely at it.

What the research shows. Randomised human trials report that Urolithin A supplementation is well tolerated and moves markers of mitochondrial health, with studies also measuring muscle endurance in older adults.

Ca-AKG — calcium alpha-ketoglutarate

What it is. Alpha-ketoglutarate sits at the centre of the Krebs cycle — the loop your cells use to turn food into usable energy. It also sits at a junction where amino-acid metabolism meets a set of enzymes that help regulate which of your genes are switched on. Ca-AKG is its stable calcium salt, which is what makes it possible to put in a capsule at all.

Why it is in the line. It is one of the most talked-about molecules in healthy-ageing research, with a genuinely strong mechanistic story and a growing body of work behind it. We offer it the way we offer everything else: on its own, at a stated dose, so you can decide for yourself rather than find it buried in a blend.

Why three jars, not one clever pill

One jar, one molecule, one job. Three different pathways, one daily ritual. Ca-AKG works in energy metabolism. NR feeds NAD⁺. Urolithin A goes after mitochondrial housekeeping. They are three different ideas, and pretending otherwise by pouring them into a single capsule would only make the doses smaller and the label vaguer.

A blend exists to stop you comparing the dose with the research. Ours cannot hide anything: 250 mg of one named compound, 100 capsules, the amount printed in milligrams of the molecule itself. No blends. No proprietary complexes. No fillers with a story.

Ca-AKG Calcium alpha-ketoglutarate — the stable calcium salt of that Krebs-cycle metabolite.
Randomised controlled trial A study in which participants are randomly assigned to treatment or control, which is what allows an effect to be attributed to the treatment.
Placebo-controlled The control group receives an inactive lookalike, so expectation is not mistaken for effect.
Biomarker Something measurable in the body, used as a stand-in for an outcome.
Assay A laboratory measurement of how much of the declared substance is present.
Certificate of analysis A batch-specific laboratory report of identity, purity and safety testing. Ours are on the Documents page.
Pullulan A polysaccharide made by fermentation, used to make vegetable capsules without gelatin.
